Garn Went Into Space
In his May 3 letter, Rahm Tamir claims that the honor of being the first space tourist “belongs to Sen. John Glenn for his 1998 joy ride aboard Discovery.” I believe we can push that date back a bit further--to April 1985, when Republican Sen. Jake Garn of Utah took the seat of a payload specialist, also aboard Discovery.
