Cockburn on Kerrey

Re “Shocked Over Kerrey? It’s How We Fought the War,” Commentary, May 3: Alexander Cockburn can’t have it both ways. On the one hand he reviles Bob Kerrey and others as potential war criminals. On the other he asserts that these men were doing the bidding of the CIA’s Phoenix program and President Nixon. If those men on the ground were carrying out national policy, the American people need to understand that reality. Let’s probe as deeply into what was going on in Washington as in Vietnam.
