The president of a Harlem home for abandoned children agreed to step down Monday amid a state investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

Lorraine Hale, daughter of Hale House founder Clara “Mother” Hale, said she will resign later this week at the first meeting of a newly appointed board of directors.

Her resignation was part of an agreement with the state attorney general’s office, which began an investigation last month into alleged improprieties at Hale House.

“We all serve for an appointed time and then move on,” Hale said in a statement.

Prosecutors are investigating allegations that Hale House failed to convert two Harlem buildings into homes for troubled mothers; operated a brownstone with serious code violations; and spent only $54,000 of the $8.4 million it raised last year on food and clothing for children.
