Wall Street Journal Ads Drop 37.2% in April

Dow Jones & Co., publisher of the Wall Street Journal, said its advertising volume dropped by more than 37% in April. The company, which warned last month that its second-quarter earnings would fall short of analysts’ expectations, said its advertising linage for its flagship paper fell 37.2% during the month from the same period last year. Advertising for the Wall Street Journal Europe declined 16.4%, while advertising for its financial magazine, Barron’s, slumped 24.3%. Shares of New York-based Dow Jones slipped 82 cents to close at $54.82 on the NYSE.
