Ex-Principal Admits He Abducted Girl, 11
A former Baptist school principal in Lake Station, Ind., confessed to running away with an 11-year-old Indiana girl on a cross-country trip that ended when police caught the pair in Las Vegas.
William A. Beith, 28, waived extradition and an identity hearing during an initial appearance in federal court. The U.S. Marshals Service said Beith probably would be extradited to Indiana within two weeks.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Tom O’Connell said Beith has confessed to the federal charges against him--coercing and enticing a minor into sexual acts and transporting a minor across state lines for sexual purposes.
