Police in the nation’s capital are searching for a California woman who vanished without a trace.

Chandra Ann Levy, 24, was last seen April 30 in a health club where she went to cancel her membership. She was supposed to return Wednesday to her hometown of Modesto for her graduation from USC. Levy was an intern with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and since September had been living in an apartment near the Dupont Circle section of the District of Columbia, about a mile west of the White House.

When her parents did not hear from her, they called district police, who searched her apartment. They said there was no sign of a struggle.

“We found all her identification in there--driver’s license, credit cards, check book, jewelry, cell phone--anything that a normal person would take out with them when they go out the street,” said Det. Ralph Durant of the district’s Metropolitan Police Department.

Durant said there was also packed luggage. There was no sign of a struggle.

Back home in California, Levy’s nervous parents were waiting for word.

“I just want her home,” said her mother, Susan Levy.
