Biola Choir Will Sing at Mother’s Day Brunch

Share

A Mother’s Day brunch, featuring the Biola University Gospel Choir, will take place Sunday at the Crazy Horse Steak House at the Irvine Spectrum. The 1 p.m. brunch will be followed by a similar program at a 4 p.m. supper.

The performances are part of a monthly gospel and comedy show at the Crazy Horse that began in December and now draws more than 200 people, organizers said.

“For Christian people who shop and are at the Irvine Spectrum on Sundays, there’s nothing for us,” said Jeff Harris, whose Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC) Productions puts on the shows. “Now we can come together for song, praise and Christian fun--good, clean fun. It’s something you can take the entire family to.”

In addition to the music, the entertainment also includes Christian comics and dancers. Harris said he plans to add a second Sunday of shows in June, and has booked in upcoming months the choirs from Saddleback Church and the Crenshaw Christian Center.

Brunch ticket prices are $25 for reserved seating, $20 general admission and $10 for children. Dinner prices are $30 for reserved seating, $25 for general admission and $10 for children. The Crazy Horse is at 71 Fortune Drive in Irvine. (949) 459-6235 or https://www.basicproductions.net.

Fifty-seven Jewish high school seniors will participate next Sunday in a graduation ceremony, called Siyyum in Hebrew, for the three-year Teens Are Leaders in Training program sponsored by the Bureau of Jewish Education.

“The idea is to keep them involved in Jewish education post bat or bar mitzvah,” said Kim Lewis, who heads the 18-year-old program for the bureau. “We also expose them to leadership training and how Jewish values work in their lives, preparing them to be Orange County’s leaders of the future.”

During the ceremony, the seniors will read their “ethical wills,” telling the members of the lower grades the lessons they learned while in the program. They also will receive a havdallah candle used in the ceremony to end the Sabbath.

The program has attracted 270 local high school students in 10th through 12th grade who meet monthly for three hours.
