Don’t Wait for the Movie

A theme seems to be emerging in new literature these days. That is, borrowing liberally from old literature. First there was “The Wind Done Gone,” based on “Gone With the Wind.” Next came a French book that picks up where “Les Miserables” left off.

So who are we to buck a trend? How about “Catcher in the Rye Bread,” in which Holden Caulfield opens a chain of bakeries? Or maybe “Don Juan Quixote,” in which our hero discovers Viagra.

Maybe you can do better. Send your idea for a literary sequel in 30 words or less to Sequels/SoCal Living, Los Angeles Times, 202 W. 1st St., Los Angeles, CA 90012; fax it to (213) 237-4888; or e-mail it to socalliving@latimes.com. The best will receive a “Don’t Wait for the Movie” T-shirt.
