Vandals Damage Sign and Lights at Church

Vandals destroyed a sign and outdoor lights early Sunday morning at Twelfth Church of Christ Scientist in Van Nuys, authorities said.
Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Yanacq Horvatich said the incident did not appear to be a hate crime. The church is at 14654 Hamlin Street near Cedros Avenue. No damage estimate was available.
“It’s discouraging,” said Lydia Mather, a 14-year member of the church who lives in the neighborhood. “This is the worst physical vandalism the church has had.”
Mather said the church has fewer than 100 members.
