From Times staff reports

After waiting hours for daybreak, rescuers Sunday pulled to safety two teenage hikers stranded overnight in the hills above Sylmar, fire and sheriff’s officials said.

The two boys--ages 16 and 17--were taken by ambulance to a San Fernando Valley hospital. They suffered from exhaustion but had no injuries, said Bob Collis, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman. They were released to their families. Fire officials withheld the boys’ names.

The teenagers took their scooters in the hills near Veterans Memorial Park Saturday afternoon and became stranded on a ledge in May Canyon, authorities said.
