EarthShell Corp. said its net loss narrowed to $8.1 million, or 8 cents a share, in the first quarter from $9.1 million, or 9 cents, a year ago. The designer of biodegradable fast-food packaging did not report revenue. The Santa Barbara-based company said that as of March 31, it had $6.7 million in cash and short-term investments and no debt. . . .
CorVel Corp., an Irvine provider of managed health-care services, reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $3.4 million, or 44 cents a share, up 10% from $3.1 million, or 39 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 13% to $55.1 million. . . .

Earnings--Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc. of Huntington Beach reported that first-quarter net income increased to 10 cents a share from a year ago. The amount was incorrect in some editions of the May 15 Business section.
Real estate investment trust Pacific Gulf Properties Inc. in Newport Beach said net income for the first quarter totaled $13.5 million, or 52 cents a share, up 67% from $8.1 million, or 39 cents, a year ago, as the company sold a substantial amount of its portfolio of industrial and multifamily holdings. Revenue dropped to $6.2 million from $33 million. . . .
Huntington Beach restaurant operator Chicago Pizza & Brewery Inc. reported that first-quarter net income increased to $764,000, or 2 cents a share, from $173,000, or 2 cents, a year ago. Revenue increased 51% to $15.4 million. . . .
Home builder William Lyon Homes in Newport Beach reported that first-quarter net income dropped 20% to $6.1 million, or 57 cents a share, and revenue increased 11% to $74.1 million.
