When You’ve Shopped ‘Til You’ve Dropped--and Need to Refuel

Authentic Cafe, 7605 Beverly Blvd., (323) 939-4626. An eclectic menu of sausage and eggs, Jamaican jerk chicken, grilled vegetable plates, Asian noodle salads and more, for about $8 to $14. Crowded with palm fronds, the patio feels like a tropical oasis.
Canter’s, 419 N. Fairfax Ave., one block north of Beverly, (323) 651-2030. Open since 1953, the deli and bakery in the heart of the Jewish Fairfax district serves matzo ball soup, lox, bagels and sandwiches for less than $10 each.
El Coyote, 7312 Beverly Blvd., (323) 939-2255. There’s usually a line at this 70-year-old institution, known for inexpensive Mexican food, so grab a table in the cantina and enjoy a potent margarita. Most entrees about $7.
Erehwon, 7660 Beverly Blvd., (323) 937-0777. A natural foods market, with tables out front for picnicking, offers soups, salads, sushi, tamales, sandwiches and more, for about $3 to $7.
Insomnia Cafe, 7286 Beverly Blvd., (323) 931-4943. Cappuccino, espresso, pastries and sandwiches for less than $5 each.
Lulu’s Cafe, 7149 Beverly Blvd., (323) 938-6095. Salads, baguette sandwiches, burgers, pastas and breakfast served until 5:30 p.m. daily. All dishes less than $10.
Red, 7450 Beverly Blvd., (323) 937-0331. A hipster haven with a red patio and interior features uncomplicated fare--club sandwiches, burgers, shrimp and goat cheese salads, seafood tacos and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Most sandwiches and salad prices range from $8 to $10.
Swingers, 8020 Beverly Blvd., (323) 653-5858. A diner for all ages with Andy Warhol cow-print wallpaper, red tartan vinyl booths, and wacky dishes including the “hell’s kitchen” curried egg scramble ($5.95), corn cakes with jalapen~o syrup ($5.25) and an ostrich burger ($7.95).
