Gun Violence
Does President Bush really believe that hiring more prosecutors is going to solve the gun violence epidemic in our nation? (“Bush Takes Aim at Gun Violence,” May 15). Every day 10 children die and many more are seriously injured by guns. We have a crisis on our hands and need prevention, not prosecutors.
President Bush needs to put his efforts into supporting legislation that will close the gun show loopholes, require proficiency by gun purchasers in the handling of their guns, require the safe storage of handguns and require registration of firearms and licensing of gun owners.
When it comes to the safety of the children in our nation, the gun issue is personal, not political. How much help are more prosecutors to the parents holding the lifeless body of their child just killed from an accidental gunshot wound?
