Share

Amanda Freed of UCLA returned to the pitching circle Friday and picked up where she left off a month ago.

Freed gave up one hit in five innings and UCLA continued its torrid run through the NCAA Division I regional playoffs with a 9-0 victory against Cal State Northridge at Easton Stadium.

Top-seeded UCLA (57-5) will face San Diego State (40-23), the only other undefeated team in the six-team, double-elimination tournament, today at 12:30. The loser will play Wisconsin at 3 p.m.

Freed (18-3), the Bruins’ top pitcher before a forearm injury discovered April 14 forced her from the circle, made quick work of the Matadors (33-24). The right-handed junior faced one over the minimum on 49 pitches, including 38 strikes.

Tairia Mims and Toria Auelua each had three hits in the Bruins’ 14-hit attack.
