Friendship Is Theme for Walk in Huntington

The second annual nondenominational “Walk for Kindness and Friendship” will take place Sunday at 7:30 a.m. in Huntington Beach beginning on the steps of City Hall and ending seven miles later at the Hebrew Academy. The free walk’s purpose is “to promote and raise people’s awareness to the values of kindness and friendship.” Organizers have divided the course into four segments for those wanting shorter walks and will provide transportation back to City Hall. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and Huntington Beach Mayor Pro-Tem Debbie Cook will participate in the walk. Children and strollers are welcome. (714) 898-0051.

Magnificat, a ministry to Catholic women, will host its Orange County Chapter prayer meal today from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Keynote speaker Rebecca Conaty will share her conversion to Roman Catholicism and the changes Magnificat has brought to her life. “The Winning Life: An Introduction to Buddhism” will take place 10 a.m. Sunday at Soka Gakki International, USA, in Santa Ana. Participants will learn about Buddhism. He Intends Victory, an evangelical Christian ministry for those living with HIV/AIDS and the families of those living with the virus, will participate in the 18th annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Irvine Spectrum. This year’s theme “One Voice, Many Faces . . . United for Life” is aimed at embracing the various faces of the disease. One of the group’s goals is to support churches with outreach opportunities. Enjoy rides, games, a raffle, food and entertainment at one of the area’s longest-running festivals this weekend at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westminster. This year’s raffle grand prize is a 2001 Honda Civic. Other prizes include a weeklong Hawaiian vacation and $500. Jay and the Latin Sounds will perform from 6 to 10:30 p.m. today. The Rev. Oscar Bolioli, Latin American director for Church World Service/National Council for the Churches of Christ, will discuss “2001 to 2005: The Future of Latin America” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ in Laguna Niguel. More than 200 people are expected to hear keynote speaker Peter Vidmar, former Olympic gymnastics champion, June 6 at the Cypress Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. The Paul McNeff Singers and KidSingers will present “2001: A Musical Odyssey” this weekend at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana. The St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir and the California Master Chorale will present “Messe Solennelle,” by Hector Berlioz, at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. The performance will feature soprano Julianna DiGiacomo, tenor Robert MacNeil and bass Louis Lebherz. The groups will be accompanied by a 40-piece orchestra. Tickets are $8. Temple Bat Yahm in Newport Beach will present its annual Cantor’s Concert on June 3 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature Cantor Jonathan Grant and the Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale.
