Not All Anti-Abortion Policies Are Equal

Share

Re “House Backs Bush Ban on Abortion Aid,” May 17: It would be nice if the anti-abortion groups would do a little research before they blindly support any anti-abortion policy that comes along. A great many of the countries that this policy affects practice infanticide as a major form of population control, rather than birth control or abortion. In many cases this barbarous practice is government policy performed by government doctors. So instead of birth control or even the regretful practice of aborting a shapeless piece of protoplasm about the size of the end of your thumb, they are continuing the policy of killing living, breathing babies--especially little girl babies--who have been carried to term. The president and his lackeys in Congress must be very proud. The religious right has won another victory.

Once again our House of Representatives (overwhelmingly male) votes to keep women uninformed about birth control through abortion. When will it happen that one man, at least, will step forward and accept responsibility for his part in creating unplanned pregnancies? Sign a pledge to use a condom or some other means of birth control. Then you can be smug and pious and claim that a woman has no choice but to birth another baby into the world.

Re “Crack User Sentenced in Fetus’ Death,” May 17: Accidentally killing a viable fetus by ingesting illegal drugs is murder, but willfully killing a viable fetus with an abortion is a woman’s right. A 35-week-old fetus is murdered if it dies from crack cocaine poisoning, but not if it is butchered in a late-term abortion. What a wonderful world we live in.
