Protesters Block Roads, Demand Jobs
Demonstrators blockaded highways in scattered protests across Argentina, with groups of people demanding jobs as Argentina endures a multiyear recession.
In downtown Buenos Aires, one group of protesters marched, banged drums and lighted firecrackers outside the pink Government House. Thousands of others gathered outside the capital, blocking key routes into the city amid commuter chaos.
At a regional economic forum in Buenos Aires, Economy Minister Domingo Cavallo said a more robust economy would go a long way to easing the nation’s problems. He has advocated spending cuts and tax changes.
