Appeals to All Ages

Share

I loved Brian Lowry’s “Not Going Quietly Into the Night” (May 9). I am a huge fan of “Diagnosis Murder” and I am on the lower side of the median viewing age (I’m 36).

I am tired of seeing all the articles about how the show caters to the geriatric age. This is the only show on TV today that appeals to all ages. I, for one, enjoy watching a show that doesn’t deal with gratuitous sex, drugs, drinking or curse words.

Thanks for giving the show and Dick Van Dyke the recognition they deserve.

To quote Dick Van Dyke on growing old, “It is a precious gift given only to some lucky human beings.” However, those of us who have been lucky to reach so-called old age feel very much neglected. In almost every area, it’s as if we don’t exist. We are never asked our opinions on anything (except maybe a laxative). We are never included in a fashion show. Most of the time it’s as if we have nothing to contribute to our society, as though our years of living have not taught us valuable lessons that might be helpful to others.

Yes, there are many of us who resent being left out.
