The Orange County coroner’s office performed an autopsy Saturday on a motorist found unconscious behind the wheel of his car after crashing into another vehicle in Tustin.
Eli Faleaana Laulu, 39, apparently lost control of his vehicle on Walnut Avenue as he was approaching Tustin Ranch Road from the east about 6:40 p.m. Friday.
After striking the curb on the right side of the road, Laulu’s vehicle crossed over into the left lane and struck the rear of a car that was stopped at Tustin Ranch Road, police said.
The impact knocked the stopped car across the intersection, and Laulu’s car came to a stop nearby.
Laulu was found unconscious behind the wheel and was treated at the scene by emergency personnel. He was transported to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m.
The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured, police said.
Police Sgt. Mark Hein said the autopsy results should be available Tuesday.
