Rabbi’s Murder Case Handed to Jurors
A jury began deliberating in Camden in the trial of a rabbi accused of having his wife murdered so he could continue his extramarital affair.
In closing arguments, Rabbi Fred J. Neulander’s lawyer said the prosecution had no physical evidence and that its witnesses, including the confessed hit man, lied about the rabbi’s involvement.
Jurors deliberated about an hour before breaking for the day. Neulander, 60, could get the death penalty if convicted.
Carol Neulander, 52, was found bludgeoned to death at the couple’s Cherry Hill home in 1994. Len Jenoff, a friend of the rabbi’s, and Paul Michael Daniels confessed to the killing. Prosecutors allege Neulander promised them $30,000 for the killing.
