Gas Prices at Lowest Since August 1999
U.S. retail gasoline prices fell over the last week to their lowest level since the summer of 1999, dropping 2.9 cents to $1.206 a gallon, the Energy Department said.
The national pump price is down 32 cents from a year ago, according to the Energy Information Administration’s weekly survey of more than 800 service stations.
The price also is down 32 cents a gallon since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Drivers have not seen regular gasoline this cheap since the week of Aug. 9, 1999, according to the agency.
The national average price for cleaner-burning reformulated gasoline was down 3.9 cents to $1.28 a gallon.
The West Coast continued to have the most expensive gasoline in the nation, with prices falling 4 cents a gallon to $1.432. In Los Angeles, the report showed, the price was down 6 cents to $1.276.
