GM to Idle Car Plant, Truck Assembly Lines

General Motors Corp. plans to close a Michigan car plant and two truck assembly lines at a Wisconsin factory for a week starting Monday, idling 4,050 workers, to reduce production of slow-selling vehicles.
The largest auto maker said it will shutter the Orion Township, Mich., plant that makes Buick Park Avenue and LeSabre, Oldsmobile Aurora and Pontiac Bonneville sedans. The company also will idle two lines at its Janesville, Wis., factory that makes General Motors and Isuzu commercial trucks.
GM still plans overtime next week at several plants that produce sport-utility vehicles and pickup trucks, as well as the factory that builds the Chevrolet Corvette sports car.
General Motors shares rose $1.01 to $43.75 on the NYSE.
