Cancer Won’t Deter Candidate for Governor

Jim Ryan, Illinois attorney general and front-runner for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in next year’s election, said he will stay in the race despite being diagnosed with cancer again.

“My prognosis for the future is very good,” the 55-year-old Ryan told a news conference after doctors disclosed he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for the third time since 1996.

He said the cancer detected in a nodule behind his right ear was “low grade and very treatable.” He also said he had no concerns that his health might affect the outcome of the election.
