More Teachers to Be Certified
The number of nationally certified public schoolteachers in California is expected to jump sharply this year, thanks in part to bonuses the state gives those who earn the honor, state officials said.
More than 500 state public schoolteachers are expected to be certified by the nonprofit National Board for Professional Teaching Standards this year. That will push the total number of nationally certified public schoolteachers in the state to about 1,200. California has 300,000 public schoolteachers.
A national credential is not required to teach in California.
