LAPD Recruitment in Arrested Development

Share

Re “Recruiters for LAPD See Surge in Interest,” Nov. 16: I find this entire recruiting issue, along with the issue of an understaffed department, quite amusing. My son’s package was finalized by the LAPD last December. Subsequently, he has received invitations to attend two academy classes only to have them withdrawn prior to the academy start date. Quite disturbing for someone eager to join the department. Unfortunately, he has not heard from an LAPD recruiting representative since July.

So here is a young man who wants to be a member of the department, following the LAPD careers of his uncle and grandfather, and who has met all requirements imposed by the department--yet nothing in nearly a year. And I’m supposed to believe that the LAPD’s recruiting problems have led to its current staffing problems? Or in my son’s case, and perhaps in many other cases, is it because he’s a male Caucasian and doesn’t meet the Police Commission’s hidden diversity “profiling” guidelines?
