MILITARY FRONT

President Bush reiterated that the U.S. anti-terrorist campaign will extend beyond Afghanistan, and the Navy launched plans to begin searching merchant ships that could be smuggling Osama bin Laden or members of his terrorist network to safety.

SECURITY

Federal authorities said that all 19 hijackers in the Sept. 11 attacks entered the United States legally on temporary visas issued at U.S. consulates in the Middle East and Europe, providing some of the strongest evidence to date that the conspiracy incubated with a core of Arab militants who came into the United States determined to inflict destruction.

ANTHRAX

A 94-year-old Connecticut woman became the fifth person to die of inhalation anthrax since a bioterrorist attack was launched through the U.S. postal system two months ago. Troubled investigators said there is no easy explanation for how the woman contracted the deadly bacteria.
