Club Cherry to Resurface at New A.D.

To everyone who’s home for the holidays, my sympathies. (Hey, we didn’t move to Hollywood because we’re “functional.”)

I’m beginning to suspect, however, that the true meaning of life can be found in the living, so enjoy that family of yours.... Speaking of family, the L.A. rock scene is about to have one of its biggest parties in years. On Dec. 7, Club Cherry is scheduled to relaunch at A.D., the new club that’s risen from the ashes of the former Play Room/Probe, and it’s raising the bar on Hollywood night life. Owned by the Davis family (brothers Allan and Art, and Art’s wife Cheryl Rixon-Davis), A.D. is ab-fab-think carved mahogany and waterfalls decadently filling out an upscale gentlemen’s lounge with a rock ‘n’ roll twist. In more Davis news, Cheryl’s new boutique, Royal Order, opens on Melrose Avenue in mid-December.

I got jiggy with FUBU fashion guru, Daywood John, who was in town from New York stirring up excitement about the company’s new film/music/TV division, FB En’t. John says whenever he’s in L.A., he hangs out at the Gate (another Davis-owned hot spot), his L.A. club of choice.... That sexy scenester Bryan Rabin tells me Rick Owens’ fashion show last week at Les Deux Cafe was the hottest ticket in town, right after Mick Jagger’s showcase at the El Rey Theatre on Thursday, which was a m-o-b scene. Well duh, he’s the king of rock.... I sniffed out Warped Tour honcho Kevin Lyman backstage at the Palace in Hollywood. Man, he’s one classy punk.... Speaking of punks, Random House published the much-anticipated oral history of L.A. punk, “We’ve Got the Neutron Bomb,” written by L.A. legend Brendan Mullen and Marc Spitz. Look for an upcoming Club Buzz, straight out of Frisco. Between an S.F. version of the Bigfoot Lodge opening Dec. 7, to Beauty Bar’s third anniversary bash in the Mission District, it’s all about California lovin’.

Finally, one of the things I’m giving thanks for: Flogging Molly “Swagger” album. Erin go bragh, bro.
