Salvage workers attached a tow cable to an oil tanker adrift Saturday off the coast of Washington, and a Chinese tug resumed hauling it to Shanghai for dismantling.

The ship broke loose from its tow in stormy seas Tuesday and began drifting back toward land, coming within 20 miles of the coast. The ship still has about 20,000 gallons of fuel oil in its tanks, and there was fear that it might foul beaches and sea life if it came ashore.
