* Today, Mountain View-based Synopsys Inc., the second-biggest maker of semiconductor-design software, is expected to announce a deal that will team it with four companies that make and design chips to store circuit designs in a library for other companies to use.

ARM Holdings, the biggest semiconductor designer; Mips Technologies Inc., the second-biggest; and chip makers Infineon Technologies and NEC Corp. will contribute blueprints of circuits, Synopsys said.
