Al Gore will be the keynote speaker at the state Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner, a key fund-raising event in the state that traditionally holds the nation’s first presidential primary.

Gore’s plans for the Oct. 27 dinner were announced by state Democrats and Gore associates. The former vice president was the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee.

A spokeswoman said party officials had contemplated canceling the event after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
