From Times Staff Reports

Ventura County supervisors Tuesday approved extended pay and benefits for county government employees who are called to military duty in the U.S.-led war against terrorism.

About 100 of the county’s 7,000-employee work force are in the military reserves and at least 10 have been activated for service. Tuesday’s action means that those employees will be entitled to a month’s full pay while on duty, followed by another month in which they earn half their county salary.

To lessen the disruption to families left behind, the employees also can keep county-provided health benefits for six months. Under state law, the county is required only to provide a month’s pay and benefits.
