Tax Cuts Both Ways

Re “Bush Details $60-Billion Tax Cut Plan,” Oct. 6:
I just love tax cuts, don’t you? If we are in times of irrational exuberance and we have a lot of money, we need a tax cut because the extra money is ours anyway, don’t you know? If we are in a recession then there is not much money around, and we need a tax cut to jump-start the economy, as everyone knows. Is this not wonderful? A tax cut for all occasions; a tax cut is always good!

A year ago, during the election, tax cuts were needed because we had a surplus. Earlier this year we needed them because the economy was beginning to slip. Now we need them because we are going to war?
