Choosing Life to Light the Dark

“Bring a Child Into a World Like This?” (Commentary, Oct. 11) brings up a very important question. Is it morally right to bring new life into the world during this time of war? We have always viewed creation as an expression of love. However, why would a loving parent bring life to an innocent child and have that child experience a world of cruelty?

This war is a conflict involving opposing ideas. These people hate us for respecting human rights and freedom. So, if we let this war stop us from creating life through love, we have already given up the very ideals that this society is fighting for. The best way to defeat these people is to show them our love for our democracy. And this will teach the future generations to value this freedom entitled to us.

I guess Norah Vincent has no concern about what a massive, vengeful population explosion would have on the world ecosystem. All of the problems we have in the world, from political upheaval to air and water pollution, depletion of aquifers, species eradication, deforestation, urban sprawl, traffic congestion and so much more, are due to the fact that there are just too many people in the world. Is it really worth making these problems worse just to spite some Stone Age terrorists? Which are the truly greater threats to our survival?
