Reacting to Terrorism

Share

Re “Defense of the Homeland Comes With Hefty Price Tag,” Oct. 15: The terrorists’ attack on the World Trade Center was meant to destroy confidence in the American way of life. The first step was the airliner attacks. A series of relatively minor (in comparison) actions on the part of the terrorists may quite possibly produce the desired results. If the federal government tries to respond to each and every possible threat, then it is quite likely that it will produce far more lasting damage to the economy and the confidence of the American people. The goal of the terrorists was to bankrupt the country spiritually and financially.

It appears that the federal government is doing exactly what the terrorists hoped it would do--playing right into their hands.
