City Council Eliminates Pre-Meeting Invocations

The City Council voted this week to remove Alameda from a small list of Bay Area cities that hold pre-meeting invocations.
The prayer issue--hotly debated by religious leaders and community activists--is not dead yet.
The council now must decide whether to replace the invocation with a “reflective” presentation or nothing at all. What qualifies as reflective remains to be clarified; council members said meetings could open with a poem or reading.
