Trade In SUVs for Fuel-Efficient Cars

Share

Re “Shadow of Terrorism Doesn’t Fall Equally on All Power Sources,” by George Skelton, Oct. 15: Kudos to David Freeman for urging Americans to embrace more renewable forms of energy as a way of lessening our reliance on Middle Eastern oil. I would like to add a further suggestion. I see so many SUVs driving around town with American flags attached to their windows. Urban owners of these vehicles could make a much more meaningful patriotic gesture by trading these gas-guzzling, polluting vehicles in for smaller, more fuel-efficient cars.

Americans should use this opportunity to express their determination to be less oil-dependent upon Middle Eastern nations by lobbying the automotive industry to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles. An added bonus would be the enormous benefit to the environment.
