Impact of Tax Cuts

Share

When Robert Reich writes, pay attention (Commentary, Oct. 23). He spells out for us succinctly what will happen if the House bill on tax cuts is enacted. It’s simple: The lower-and middle-income classes will pay for the manifold exigencies related to the new terrorist economy while the upper-income class gets off the hook.

Let the members of each socioeconomic class pay proportionate amounts for the recovery, according to their respective incomes. That’s the appropriate way to pay for the actual and collateral damage caused by the Sept. 11 attacks.

The notion that everyone who paid taxes this year received a tax rebate check is false. My son is 36 years old and has had the same job for 16 years. He makes $40,000 a year. He has a wife and two children. He did not receive a tax rebate check. He called the IRS and was told that he did not qualify. Who made this decision and what was it based on?
