FDA Approves New Drug to Fight HIV

The Food and Drug Administration approved a new anti-viral drug to fight HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Viread, made by Gilead Sciences of Foster City, Calif., blocks reproduction of the virus, the FDA said.

The new pill is approved for use alone or in combination with other drugs. It should be available by the end of the week, Gilead said.
