Dump as Landmark
Re “Denials Fly Over Dump as Landmark,” Aug. 29: With your Column One article on the early deaths of bighorn lambs due to pollution, and the news in Section B that California is second only to Hawaii in most plants and animals on the endangered species list, it is only fitting--and prophetic--that the Fresno Municipal Sanitary Landfill be designated a national historic landmark. Since there is no program to commemorate where the last of a species dies, perhaps their names can be added to the bronze plaques at the nearest national historic oil well, mill, mine, dump, whatever.
