Trustees to Consider Ojai Charter School

A proposal for Ojai’s first charter school will go before the school district’s board of trustees Tuesday.

Matilija Junior High School teacher Craig Walker will present a petition for the new school, which proposes serving 360 students in kindergarten through 8th grade, said Ojai Unified School District Supt. Van Riley.

Charter schools are run by private citizens or groups, but are funded by the state.

The school would enroll 240 students from within the Ojai district and 120 from private schools and neighboring districts, Riley said.

Its curriculum would be activity-oriented and focus on environmental education and the performing arts. The school board will meet at 7 p.m. at district headquarters, 414 E. Ojai Ave.
