August Power Use Drops 9% During Peak Periods
State energy officials said Sunday that Californians used 9% less electricity during peak periods this August. The usage was compared to last year.
They also said that 4.3 million Californians qualified for rebates from the state’s 20/20 energy conservation program. That’s a 25% increase over the previous month.
The 20/20 program gives customers a 20% rebate on their summer energy bills if they reduce their energy usage by 20% or more. The program runs through September.
Officials said overall energy use in August was down by 1.6-million megawatt-hours.
