Lifeguards Save 4 Girls Out Too Far in Ocean
Los Angeles lifeguards rescued four young girls who ventured into deep water Monday while playing in the ocean off Cabrillo Beach, authorities said.
The children, members of an extended family from the Gardena area, got into trouble and tried to help one another but found themselves in water over their heads, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. The girls, ages 7, 8, 10 and 12, were clinging to each other when they were rescued, he said.
Humphrey said the girls, whose names were not released, were hospitalized but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
