Two Sets of Books
I just finished reading your Sept. 2 article on the comeback of lockers all over California schools due to students’ back problems, and I have a better solution. I attended Aliso Niguel High School in Orange County, which bought two sets of books: one for classrooms and one for students to take home. This is the best solution I see, for several reasons. Students are not forced to carry their books to and from school, helping their backs; there are no lockers in which to hide drugs or weapons; and a student would never forget to bring a book home or leave one for a class in his or her locker.
I have been in both situations, having a locker and not, and I favor not having one. It is easier on the staff and students of the school, and it works well.
