The free digital-music party has continued this summer as Internet users download everything from Aaliyah to ZZ Top through a variety of online music services still going strong despite Napster’s fall.

A new wave of services now offer more than just music, which was all Napster put online.

File-swapping services with such names as Kazaa (https://www.kazaa.com) and Morpheus (https://www.musiccity.com) enable users to trade music, video and other files over the Internet, and they have attracted millions of users in the last few months as pioneer service Napster has withered under a barrage of music-industry lawsuits.

The new services have attracted the attention of not just free-music fans but also politicians worried about the easy availability of pornography and media companies concerned about piracy. Computer security experts also are concerned that the new online swap systems are more prone to computer viruses than the disabled Napster.
