FBI Documents Detail Fire Power Unleashed in Columbine Attack

Investigators recovered nearly 200 shells and casings, including 41 live rounds, after the 1999 Columbine High School shootings, according to FBI documents released Thursday.

The federal report pointed to a large amount of gunfire traced to weapons used by the two gunmen and police officers, FBI Special Agent Carle Schlaff wrote in a report.

“Basically, the entire campus was a crime scene except for the gym,” Schlaff wrote.

The documents, which provided little new information, were among hundreds of reports, CDs and audiotapes that Jefferson County sheriff’s officials have released.

Brian Rohrbough, whose son Daniel was killed in the attack, said he thinks sheriff’s officials and the FBI still are withholding some documents because the reports that have been released offer only rough sketches. A wrongful death lawsuit against sheriff’s officials contends Daniel was killed by police officers, not one of the student gunmen, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, at the Littleton, Colo., school.

Also Thursday, a state appeals court upheld the 4 1/2-year prison term for Philip Joseph Duran, 23, who helped Klebold and Harris buy a weapon they used in the shooting.
