Juror’s Illness Delays Caro Trial Testimony
Testimony in the Socorro Caro murder trial was cut short Friday when a juror’s illness prompted Judge Donald D. Coleman to excuse the panel early.
Defense attorneys had completed their cross-examination of Caro’s husband, Dr. Xavier Caro, who had been on the witness stand all week. Prosecutor Cheryl Temple was starting to question him about family finances when the recess was called.
Socorro Caro is accused of fatally shooting three of the couple’s young sons as they slept in the family’s Santa Rosa Valley home. She is charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
Her attorneys, who say Xavier Caro framed their client, have challenged his credibility on numerous points the prosecution was attempting to rebut before the early weekend break.
The trial in Ventura County Superior Court is to resume Monday.
