Sheriff Bob Brooks has cut four deputy positions from a unit that transports inmates to and from court appearances.

A smaller work force means there may be delays in bringing defendants to the courthouse because deputies will be moving them in smaller groups, sheriff’s spokesman Eric Nishimoto said.

County Executive Johnny Johnston called for reductions to help the county balance its $1.1-billion budget. The staff reductions will save about $350,000 and affect only the main courthouse in Ventura.
