Compromise at Bolsa Chica Is Not Acceptable

Share

As a resident of Huntington Beach, I have watched with disgust and dismay as yet another development plan for the Bolsa Chica mesa is on its way to be approved by the governing authorities.

I am 100% against the 387-home development that is proposed for the mesa (Aug. 14).

This construction will destroy valuable foraging habitat for the wildlife that thrives on the mesa and the wetlands below. It will also destroy land sacred to the Acjachemen Nation, the Juaneno band of Mission Indians and the Gabrieleno/Tongva Tribal Council of the Tongva Nation.

The site is more valuable as a cultural and learning resource for our children than as a site for homes. This development will do absolutely nothing to alleviate the housing crisis that people say exists in Orange County.

Hearthside Homes has already built 16 homes priced at more than half a million dollars on top of another valuable archeological site called Sandover. It should be called Boneover for the 16 grave sites that were desecrated in the construction of the houses.

We enjoy hiking in the open space of the Bolsa Chica mesa and wetlands. We believe that it should be preserved as is. Compromise is not acceptable.
