In keeping with the self-revealing tone suggested by the titles of her new album, “Skin,” and her autobiography, “The Truth Is ... ,” Melissa Etheridge’s concert tour is called Live and Alone, promising a solo, soul-baring show from the soulful singer-songwriter.

Marcia Rodd is Mary Todd Lincoln in James Prideaux’s drama “The Last of Mrs. Lincoln,” a chronicle of the last 17 years in the life of “the first modern political wife,” years that found her branded a lunatic and fleeing from a scandal-hungry press. It wasn’t too long ago that the Donnas were scrappy unknowns looking for a break. Returning to San Diego for the first time in 10 years, American Ballet Theatre will join members of the San Diego Symphony in performances at the Civic Theatre this weekend. On Friday, the company dances Paul Taylor’s “Black Tuesday” and Natalie Weir’s “Jabula,” along with Clark Tippet’s familiar “Bruch Concerto No. 1.” On Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, the program changes to the full-length “Giselle,” with Julie Kent and Angel Corella heading the evening cast, but Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Belotserkovsky in the spotlight at the final matinee. From Dec. 14 to 23, the company dances “The Nutcracker” at the new Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

“The Last Season,” Christopher Moore’s drama, is about a team trying for its third consecutive World Series Negro Baseball championship in 1946, after Jackie Robinson had broken the color barrier and joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. Henry Lennix, critically acclaimed for his role in Julie Taymor’s film “Titus,” stars as a player on the team who is tempted to join another all-white team in the majors. John Mauceri and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra celebrate their 10-year anniversary with three nights of the Fireworks Finale. This summer the guest stars are three: Grammy-nominated country singer Billy Gilman, versatile Marni Nixon (the “Voice of Hollywood”) and Tony-winning Nell Carter in a collaborative program offering “the best in Hollywood, Broadway and the performing arts.”
