Rockin’ at the Viper RoomIs Elemental

Thank God for rock ‘n’ roll therapy this week.

Got me a heavy dose at Elemental’s recent Viper Room gig. The young L.A. rockers are destined for stardom. Word up to music manager Blaine Kaplan, who turned me on to Elemental. Talk about ears: As a young whipper-snap in San Francisco, Kaplan was the first booking agent to sign Cake and Sublime (a few of my favorite things). You can check out Elemental at the Troubadour on Monday.

It felt good to be back on Hollywood Boulevard last week at a private opening party for Star Shoes, the snappy new sister bar of Beauty Bar. I got to catch up with Hollywood heavyweights such as Johnny Camacho (C Bar), Marc Smith (North/Three Clubs), Samir and Simon Jones (partners in the upcoming Vine bar), Ricki Kline and Monica May (husband-and-wife scene team), and an electrician in leather pants asked me to dance, too. Thanks, Sparky ....

Back on the boulevard, I chilled with some homeless folks at a bus stop at midnight. Made me some new friends .... Speaking of friends, gave C.C. DeVille a noogy at Club Make-Up’s Madonna-thon, which was a spectacular spectacle. Miss Alanna is an excellent hostess.

Club Make-Up’s music director, Xander Smith, confused Mel Gibson for Russell Crowe at the Viper recently. It appeared Gibson wasn’t quite sure who he was either .... A friend of the scene has been diagnosed with tinnitus, leading this Club Girl to form her own make-a-wish foundation: I wish nightclubs would distribute noise reduction earplugs at the door. A girl can dream, right?

B.B. King’s kicks off Universal Records’ Organic Soul concert series next Thursday with performances by Warren G and Ms. Toi. The monthly $10 showcase returns to the CityWalk blues club on Oct. 4 with Afroman. What are they, high? Got to kick it with artist and reggae record producer Lee Jaffe at Dominick’s recently. Jaffe’s hard at work on a book about his former roommate, Bob Marley. Now there’s a man who knew a thing or two about world peace. One love.
